How to play Euchre

Choose trump, remember that the jacks become the right and left bowers, and win at least three tricks with your partner.

Start with a plan

These notes cover the controls, rules, and decisions in this browser version.

Choose live or bot play, then order up the turned suit or pass into the second round of trump selection.
Remember that the jack of trump is the right bower and the other jack of the same color becomes the left bower and changes suit.
Follow the led suit when possible and use trump to win when void. The maker’s team needs at least three of five tricks.
Win three or four tricks for one point, sweep all five for two, or score extra by succeeding alone without a partner.

Evaluate bowers, number of trump, off-suit aces, and dealer position together instead of calling from one strong card alone.
When your team made trump, lead a strong trump early when it can pull opposing trump without exhausting all your control.
If defending, protect an off-suit ace by avoiding an unnecessary lead that lets the maker become void in that suit.
Going alone is worthwhile when the hand can control several leads; a merely playable calling hand usually benefits from its partner.
