How to play Hearts

Avoid taking hearts and the queen of spades. The lowest score wins unless someone captures every penalty card and shoots the moon.

Start with a plan

These notes cover the controls, rules, and decisions in this browser version.

Choose bot practice or live matchmaking, then pass three cards in the direction shown at the start of the hand.
Follow the led suit when possible; otherwise discard any legal card. The highest card of the led suit wins the trick.
Each heart is worth 1 point and the queen of spades is worth 13. Avoid taking penalty cards unless pursuing every one of them.
Complete hands until a player reaches the score limit; the player with the lowest total wins.

Use the pass to shorten a dangerous suit or remove isolated high cards rather than simply discarding the three highest values.
Track whether the queen of spades remains in play before leading or winning with high spades.
Keep a low exit card in a safe suit so you can lose the lead after being forced to take a trick.
If one player begins collecting every penalty card, save a controllable heart or the queen to break a possible moon attempt.
