How to play FreeCell
Use the four free cells as temporary storage while you build alternating-color columns and move complete suits to the foundations.
About FreeCell
An open-information solitaire game where planning and empty columns matter more than luck.

How to play FreeCell
These notes cover the controls, rules, and decisions in this browser version.
Play a round
- Scan the fully visible deal before moving anything and identify low cards that can reach their foundations early.
- Build tableau columns downward in alternating colors. A free cell can hold one card while you rearrange a blocked sequence.
- Empty tableau columns act like extra workspaces and can hold a card or a legal packed sequence.
- Move every suit from ace through king to the four foundations to solve the deal.
Strategy for this version
- Treat each occupied free cell as reduced moving capacity. Keep at least one open whenever the board gives you another option.
- Opening a tableau column is usually more valuable than filling a free cell because the column can hold an entire movable run.
- Build foundations evenly enough that low cards of one color do not trap the opposite-color cards needed in the tableau.
- Work backward from buried aces and twos, planning where every blocking card will go before starting a long sequence.
